Scientific Aspects of Agnihotra: Growth of Plants in Agnihotra Atmosphere and with Agnihotra Ash (Part 6)

Seeing is believing, it is said. The following articles in this series document, in some detail, the positive results of Agnihotra and Agnihotra ash on growth of plants, plant resistance to disease and pests, shelf life and other parameters of quality, taste and quantity.

It is difficult to over-estimate the potential such information has for a world beset by climate influences causing difficulties to agriculture.–Ecovillage Bhrugu Aranya

By Dr. Ulrich Berk
Germany

Note: The following scientific studies were based on Agnihotra performed using:
– a copper pyramid of exact size and shape
– the precise materials (pure dried cow dung, pure cow’s ghee, less polished rice – and nothing else to be added)
– absolutely correct timings to the second (which will change from year to year and have to be calculated for each address)
– exact Agnihotra mantras
For some other type of fire procedure which does not follow all these disciplines, results will be different.

In the previous article we saw that Agnihotra Ash helps seeds to germinate better. The same result we get when seeds are kept for germination in a room where Agnihotra is performed regularly.

These are very simple experiments which everybody can easily perform at home also.

We again suggest that you try yourself – and then please also send us photos of your results.

Definitely the germination stage is very important for the life of plants, but unless we are just interested in sprouts it is important to see how plants grow further until they are harvested. Will plants also grow faster in the later stages, will there be a stronger resistance against diseases and pests, etc.? What about the quantity, the quality of the produce, the nutritional value, the shelf life?

There were a lot of observations and reports from people performing Agnihotra in their gardens as well as from farmers who performed Agnihotra in their fields and used Agnihotra Ash for irrigation and for preparing different sprays.

One relatively simple experiment was done in Fergusson College, Pune, India.

Two plants were maintained providing the same amount of water, light and other environmental conditions. One was kept in a room where Agnihotra was performed and another was kept in another room where Agnihotra was not performed. See the difference in the growth of these two plants:

Although the experiment was not done under ideal conditions, still the difference in the growth of these two plants is obvious. Ideally for such an experiment there should be a distance of three kilometres – but in this case the two plants were grown in two different rooms of the same building, so also the first plant got definitely SOME of the Agnihotra effect.

This is just one example. More systematic research has been done by Dr. Selvaraj at the Institute of Commercial Horticulture, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Ooty, India. Yield, quality of the produce, and disease resistance were examined, comparing:

  • Organic farming system
  • Organic farming system + Agnihotra
  • Conventional farming
  • Absolute control

Following are some of the results.

Effect of organic farming on growth and yield of Rose cv. Passion

Treatments Fresh flower wt/ plant (g) Stalk length (cm) Flower diameter (cm) No. of flowers/ plant/year Shelf life of flowers (days)
Organic 19.54 85.59 6.81 26.54 14
Organic +Agnihotra 21.34 88.98 7.54 28.80 16
Conventional 12.98 75.98 5.54 16.70 3
Absolute Control 8.65 67.23 3.54 12.65 1.5
CD at 5% 0.85 2.95 0.55 1.25

Organic plus Agnihotra gave best results in all the parameters which were checked.

Flowers are normally grown in greenhouses, and because of high humidity fungal diseases are quite common. A study showed that Agnihotra can control one common fungal disease, powdery mildew (characteristic are white powdery spots on the leaves and stems).

Effect of organic farming on the incidence of powdery mildew of Rose cv. Passion

Treatments Powdery mildew (Spaerotheca pannosa) (%)
Organic 4.4
Organic +Agnihotra 2.9
Conventional 12.3
Control 25.9

Another experiment was done on potatoes. Yield and the occurrence of late blight were examined. (The disease late blight affects mainly potatoes and tomatoes – and which led to the Irish potato famine of the 1840s; two million people died or emigrated from Ireland then!).

Effect of Agnihotra on pest complex of potato cv. Kufri jyoti

Treatments Late blight (%) Yield (t/ha)
90 days after planting
Organic 45 8.4
Organic +Agnihotra 11 9.6
Conventional 65 4.2
Absolute Control 80 2.5

Other salient findings were:

  • Organic farming with Agnihotra in Carnation recorded higher performance for plant height (95.43 cm), stalk length (93.24 cm), flower diameter (7.76 cm), number of flowers/plant/year (9.78), and shelf life (14.43 days) compared to other treatments.
  • In Carnation, Organic farming with Agnihotra showed higher disease resistance.
  • In Gerbera, Organic farming with Agnihotra recorded higher performance for number of flowers 20, shelf life 16 days.
  • In Gerbera, Organic farming with Agnihotra showed higher disease resistance for leaf spot, fusarium wilt.
  • Among the four treatments Organic farming with Agnihotra in Potato recorded higher performance for yield (9.6 t/ha) and showed increased disease resistance.

These were quite impressive results of the first systematic study on yield, health, disease resistance, and shelf life of plants.

In the next article we will look into

  1. the underlying mechanisms – how does Agnihotra achieve these positive effects, and
  2. how to make use of these effects on farm level.

In Remembrance–Kusum Vasant Paranjpe

Sarvajit Paranjpe
Maheshwar, India

Kusum Vasant Paranjpe on her 90th birthday in March, 2018.

Kusum was born into a family named Kajale in Kohlapur, Maharashtra on 22nd March, 1928. She was the fourth among five siblings; Malati, Ganesh, Indu, Kusum and Prabha.

Her father’s name was Shankar but was popularly called Appa by all. He was a learned man who was very punctual and disciplined and was working for the Indian Railways. He hailed from Konkan but due to the very nature of his work, they shifted to Mumbai.

Her mother’s name was Radha. She had completed just a few years of education. She couldn’t write well, but she taught herself to read very well. She would plunge herself into any reading material that  she could get her hands on, and was a self-taught woman.

Radha was one who would mould herself according to the times, and she would encourage her daughters, too, to change according to modern circumstances.

She made her daughters complete their education according to their likings. Kusum graduated in Arts from Ruia College, Matunga, Mumbai. She was a badminton player who participated in different championships and won medals.

After a girl completed her graduation was the time when parents would look for a good groom. Just after Kusum’s graduation thus Shree Vasant was introduced to Kusum’s parents, through one of their relatives, as an ideal groom to wed. Shree Vasant had only been out of jail a few months, after having spent 3 years and 7 months in Pune and Belgaum jails. He had been detained without trial for his participation in the “Quit India” movement. (The Quit India Movement  was a movement launched by Mahatma Gandhi on August 8th, 1942, during World War II, calling for an end to British rule in India.—Ed.) Shree Vasant was an active participant in the nation’s freedom movement. The relative told Kusum’s parents about Shree, that the boy is good and will take good care of her. Ultimately, Kusum and Shree Vasant got married on 28th November, 1946 in Pune.

After 5 years of marriage, their son, Abhay, was born on 10th December, 1950.

Around 1955 they shifted to Belgaum, as Shree Vasant wanted to set up a paper factory. As Shree Vasant had to travel a lot for work, Kusum’s parents would accompany her to Belgaum to be with her, though they and Kusum stayed in separate houses. They stayed with her for 5 years, but later on, because of their deteriorating health, her parents had to move back to Mumbai for better medical care.

Then in 1958, just after 3 years, Shree Vasant happened to meet Shree Gajanan Maharaj to seek His blessings so that they could set up the paper factory. At this deciding moment, the lives of both Shree Vasant and Kusum were going to change, after that meeting with Shree Gajanan Maharaj. After the meeting, Shree Gajanan Maharaj said to his close disciple, “We have found the one We were looking for.”

Slowly after that, Shree Vasant would often visit Shree Gajanan Maharaj and engage in spiritual practices under His guidance. After a few years, Shree Vasant would go to unknown places for his deeper spiritual practices. It was during this period that Kusum had to go through great turmoil to sustain the family. She took up a clerical job to meet the day-to-day family needs for many years.

Later on, Shree Vasant would go to the USA on 20th June, 1972, at the command of Shree Gajanan Maharaj, to carry His blissful words to the people of the world.

Shree Vasant travelled across the world to share the message of Agnihotra and Fivefold Path.

Kusum always showed devotion towards Shree Vasant and the work He was doing. She had the grit to go through all the ups and downs without losing her mental poise.

After Shree Vasant’s first trip to the USA, his presence in Akkalkot increased. Abhay also would stay in Akkalkot to assist Shree Vasant in His work, for extended periods of time. But Kusum was still in Belgaum all alone. After some time, Shree Gajanan Maharaj asked Kusum to come and stay in Akkalkot. A trust named “Fivefold Path Mission” was set up on the command of Shree Gajanan Maharaj and adjoining land to Shivpuri was bought by Fivefold Path Mission. A few houses were built for people wanting to walk the Path of Light of Fivefold Path, and people started coming. It soon became a hub for westerners from various walks of life, from places Shree Vasant had visited. Kusum would become the mother for those who came to stay, learn and share.

A house in Dhule was bought in 1989 so that Kusum’s and Shree Vasant’s grandchildren could have access to education, as the other places were very remote.

Another centre was built, named Tapovan, in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra around the 1990s. Later on there, 24 hours Om Tryambakam Yajnya would begin on 25th March, 2001.

Kusum would stay in Tapovan and Dhule till 2005. She would also travel sometimes, accompanying Shree Vasant on His journeys within India.

In 2006 Kusum permanently shifted to Homa Therapy Goshala in Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh. Shree Gajanan Maharaj had told Shree Vasant that after the completion of his work and at the end of his life, he shall reside on the bank of river Narmada in Maheshwar. Accordingly, a piece of land was bought in the year 2000, where Shree Vasant stayed until the end of his life.

Shree Vasant started the series of seven Somayags in Maheshwar in 2007, but he left his body on 30th December, 2008. Maheshwar Goshala would become a place where people from  many countries and India gathered and performed and attended the healing fires of Somayag.

Kusum places flowers on the box containing Tretagni fire before the 7th Somayag. From left: Bhakti Apte, wife of Yajaman Achal Apte, Achal Apte, Kusum and Anjali Paranjpe, wife of Abhay Paranjpe.

It became a place for Agnihotra practitioners to gather from the different corners of the world. Kusum, still healthy and strong, would engage, with compassion to all the people who would come to meet her. She was calm and would not interfere with the day-to-day matters, but would encourage others to work with diligence. She ultimately witnessed all the seven Somayags which Shree Vasant started 11 years back.

Ultimately she left her body on 12th April, 2018, peacefully at early morning hours in her sleep, at the age of 90. Till the last moment of her life she had a sharp memory. Her body was weak but not her mind. She maintained her mental poise and cheerfulness till the very last.

Kusum showed her utmost faith towards Shree Vasant and the work he was doing. She went through a lot of obstacles and pain in her whole life, but still she would remain calm and collected.

We pay our respects to this lady of substance and her great contribution to the journey of Agnihotra. For sure, she knew the very purpose of her Journey!

January 20, 2018 On Creating Resistance
Yes, yes, yes. The suffering of the world is extreme. We see the pained faces in the world.
We see all of your deep discontent. Yet it seems you are powerless to make a change, try
as you might.

The powers that render judgment and initiate such programs as to annihilate, inhibit and
annul human beings of all races, religions and creeds, are merciless in their vengeance.

However, dear ones, do not despair.
Stand firm in the face of affronts to human dignity, and aspire to champion a new
way of being in the world.

Create avenues to walk freely upon.
Support those less privileged or less fortunate than yourselves.
Love will find a way.

There are those in every time in life, every era, every age—who defy orders, who create
their own resistance to evil, who comfort those in greater need, who educate their children
to speak their truth and value humanity and genuine acts of kindness.

Unify in the face of all that stands to block you. Strengthen each other in these
times of extreme darkness in the world.

For within those whose hearts are in prayer, whose eyes are open to receive and
whose arms open to give—within each of you there is an eternal flame of LOVE, of
TRUTH, of HIGHER JUSTICE, of DIVINITY.

You must gather together in the names of your Fathers and in the names of your
Mothers, in the prayers of the Ancients, find recourse, find solace, find rejuvenation.
Through the avenue of pure prayer, deep meditation and sacred sound, music, laughter,
art, dance and mantra, more prayer—the seed shall flourish upon the sacred Earth.

And it shall be so that the land upon which you stand will return to its true nature and all
who walk upon it will be healed.
As it is so.
As it shall be so.

OM.

Agnihotra in Austria

Reiner Szcypior

Victoria and Jürgen as well as Andrea and Markus have been doing Agnihotra on their farms for quite some time. Together, they have about 130 cows and produce dried cow dung and ghee for all who practice Agnihotra and other Vedic fires.

Alexandra Z. has initiated both families into the ancient knowledge of the Homa Therapy Agnihotra fire that is practiced with enthusiasm and joy every day. The ashes are already used for medical purposes on their cows, are added to the drinking water and / or feed and are discharged in the fields.

Many friends were invited on this evening last summer and we were able to ignite some new Agnihotra fires and thank Mother Nature, who is so wonderful.

Where There Is Darkness, Let Me Sow Light

The following message was received by Parvati Rosen-Bizberg in meditation.

February 21, 2018 Shree
The rise of racism and anti-Semitism comes as no surprise, but history will not repeat itself. Still, it is disconcerting to those who have made such great progress in pursuit of freedom and equality for all and in pursuit of UNITY amongst all humankind.

Where there is darkness let me sow Light.
There is no question of falling prey to darkness, when it is the Light within you which will overcome darkness always. Always.

Be resolute in your love and compassion toward all people.

See not divisions.
Seek not to build walls, but to build bridges between you.

Stand for all that is true, all that is just and all that is kind.

Do not give in to fear, nor be moved by hatred, greed or mistrust.
Know that, first and foremost, you have been created in the likeness of thy Father. Act as such.

Walk in Light.

All love and blessings.
OM TAT SAT.

Healing with Homa Therapy

Carmen Maria Salazar Palacios
Peasant Community Castilla
Piura, Peru, South America

I am 60 years old. I suffered from high blood pressure, dizziness and headache. Due to these problems, I had to take one pill every day in the morning and one at the night, for 20 years. Still, sometimes I have had to go to the emergency room, because I could not stand the dizziness and pains. There, they crushed the pill and placed it beneath my tongue and even injected me. But with all this I still had the problems.

When I met Homa Therapy 5 years ago, at the Municipality of Castilla, where the Mayor had organized a presentation of Homa Therapy with you [Homa Therapy teachers Abel Hernandez and Aleta Macan], I began to practice it and take its ash 3 times every day with juice. And to this day, even though I have not been constant with its practice, I feel good and I do not take any pill, in spite of what the doctor had told me, that I would have to take this pill for life. My pressure is completely normal. My daughters are my witnesses.

One of my daughters, Ruth, is in the beginning stage of arthritis and could not get out of bed. I took her to a doctor, who only prescribed for her pain-relieving, anti-inflammatory medicine. But she was the same; they did not alleviate her pain.

Last night, she participated in Agnihotra and I gave her 3 tablespoons of Agnihotra Ash in juice before going to sleep. She did not take any pills. She slept well and got up early at 5:00 in the morning to do her therapeutic exercises. Then she swept the floor; (usually she cannot manage the broom). Today she has also gone for a walk to the center. I have a lot of faith in Homa Therapy.

Maritza, the other daughter confirms, “This is all true, my mom is not exaggerating.”

Daniel Raimundo Pailla
Fuengirola, Málaga, Spain

I worked hard and a lot. I always attended people, even outside of my work schedule. At the same time, I was trying to help my nephew to collect funds for a necessary operation.  At that time, I went from 72 kgs down to 58 kgs. I had lost muscle mass and I was completely exhausted.

One day, I told my mother, “I can’t give anything more. What can I do?” I had overwhelming stress and I carried a load too big.

My mother recommended that I see Christa and Ricardo Mena and learn about the Healing Fires. I went to visit them and they taught me Homa Therapy. With its practice, I began to regain my energy. I felt the connection with nature and the stress began to disappear. I began to recover and I am still grateful for this.

If one feels the Fire in the heart, one just has to surrender. When we question things, we get stuck. The Homa Fire is a jewel and it is in synchronicity with nature. It is shared at zero cost. There is nothing in the world like it. It is a priceless energy. Thousands of Euros in our pockets cannot buy it. I am very happy that this Fire came to me.

From Shree Vasant’s Teachings

On Meditation
Do not seek to attain beautiful experiences in your meditations. We do not meditate for experience alone. It is as you would give a gift to receive a “thank you” or some gift in return.
When you meditate it helps you in a much subtler way than actual physical, mental experiences. It also helps those around you. Do not think, “Oh, I had a bad meditation.” Sometimes it is delightful, other times very subtle. If there is some disturbance consistently in your meditations, check your diet and posture during meditation.

Regular practice of Pranayama itself may alleviate all or part of the difficulty. This ancient breathing technique is excellent for the mind and bodily functions.

Be Full of Love
Have you ever been in the company of a very angry person? You will start quivering yourself. The vibrations of anger are so strong.

Now can you imagine being near someone who is full of love all the time? You are bound to feel good in this presence. This is what we should strive for in our daily lives–just to be full of love, and anger goes. The jealousy will go, the desires will fall off.

One evil thought has certain effect on the atmosphere, so you can imagine the effect of harmful chemicals, atom bombs, sprays, even insect repellents. Your thoughts impinge upon the atmosphere.

Focus energy in positive direction. This is important now.

Love is the highest energy that we know of. So, if our thoughts are going to impinge upon the atmosphere, then why not think positive good thoughts? Try to break away from gossip, judgments of others. Try to truly love thy neighbor as thyself. Let us begin to fill the atmosphere with love. LET US DO IT NOW SO THAT WE WILL BE PREPARED FOR TOMORROW.

On Service
Once you make the choice to serve others in whatever way you can, automatically, at each turn, you are given these subtle hints, and guidance comes through any channel necessary at the time. Guidance can come in dreams, in everyday conversation with a stranger, in reading; even through music, subtle guidance comes.

Always attune yourself to that higher force and you will be constantly taken care of, as if a hand is above you, directing you to your goal.

Always remember to be conscious of the other man. Make efforts to be full of love. Guard against envy, jealousy, greed. Keep a watchful eye to prevent yourself from becoming a victim of your desires. Always you will be lifted, if you fall. But you  have to make an effort to get the strength you require.

Fivefold Path for Happy Living

1. Yajnya
HOMA Therapy is the science of purification of the atmosphere through the agency of FIRE. AGNIHOTRA HOMA (YAJNYA) is the basic HOMA. It is tuned to the biorhythm of sunrise/sunset and gives nutrients to the plant kingdom, removes diseases in a certain area and removes tension on the mind. This is the basic process in the science of medicine, agriculture, climate engineering and interplanetary communication.
2. Daan
Sharing of your assets in a spirit of humility. This corrects imbalance in financial matters and creates non-attachment to worldly possessions.
3. Tapa
Self-discipline of body and mind. This is conducive to a change in attitudes of mind and body. It results in a harmonious state of mind.
4. Karma
“You reap as you sow.” Always practicing good Karma (actions) diminishes the burden of negative Karma and one begins to invest in his own future. This means that what you do today will bring its fruits. Sowing seeds of love and kindness will bless my garden with plenty of love. Do Karma for self purification.
5. Swadhyaya
Practice Swadhyaya (Self-study) for liberation. Who am I? Why am I here? My work on this planet is to learn to react with total LOVE with each opportunity given to me.
This is the Fivefold Path for happy living on the planet. By practicing the Fivefold Path you become better members of your society, group, religion, community, etc.
